Exit πŸ˜‚

(2023)

Exit πŸ˜‚ is Otniel's attempt to let go of his lengger identity by taking distance from tradition and the choreographic discipline that he has been practising so far, namely: lengger. This work was created based on archival documentation photographs of several titles of her dance works through the work of three layers of perspective from other people: the photographer, the photo selector, and the photo designer. In each of these layers, Otniel is not involved at all except in the final stage when Othniel stands before the audience.

Exit πŸ˜‚ uses this way of working to investigate and re-record lengger as a term that is attached to his identity and at the same time his artistic explorations. In round 3, Otniel challenged the exit through an elaboration of sound installation by Mahamboro and visual mapping by Naufal Alaudin. This was an unlearning process of mapping anxiety and questions and at the same time an experiment in going beyond the lengger. It is through this expanse of photographs that Otniel wants to bring the images to life with a tableau approach and then grow them through movement narratives and installations.
