Nyawiji
(2021)
In this sad time, death is getting closer and closer. The event of death is the closest reality, but at the same time, it is the thing we don't understand or perhaps fear the most. But what if death is actually more beautiful than life? What if death is actually the door that frees the soul from its limits?
Nyawiji is an offer to interpret death as a silent celebration of the liberation of the soul from worldly boundaries. Otniel Tasman, through Lengger's perspective, sees death as a stage of a spiritual journey towards the truth. Eating about life-death relationships, and encounters with things that have been out of control so far. A perfecter, a unifier with the universe.
Othniel's meaning of death began two years ago in his performance work in the coffin. Nyawiji is also an excerpt from "Amongster: Voyage of Lengger" (2020), which portrays his inner and outer journey as Lengger.
